European standards

Educational quality is dependent on social developments and interests. Thus the understanding of quality changes continuously because it adjusts to changes in preferences. Educational quality, must however, be constantly defined and formulated in order to clarify aims (requirements) and to offer orientation.

This means for language providers of educational quality:
The orientation to …

  • The CEF ‘The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: learning, teaching, assessment’ published as a recommendation by the Council of Europe
  • EQARF ‘European Quality Assurance Reference Framework’ passed by the European Commission and Council on June 18, 2009.

Mission statement

Members of the Alliance maintain quality development and assurance so that:

  • learners who have achieved a proficiency level and wish to continue learning independently can do so
  • language programme providers who wish to expand on outcomes obtained at other providers can do so with confidence
  • employers who appraise and compare examination results can do so easily and globally

Understanding of quality

32 characteristics in 7 quality sectors with 152 indicators define the Alliance’s understanding of quality. Results of findings on professional practice experience and research on teaching and schools – with no claims to completeness – have been compiled in an orientation framework. The Framework of Reference serves as orientation in the development of lessons and identified these fields of school activity as being particularly decisive for the success of language programme providers.

Understanding quality & quality cycle

Quality Development

The school should provide a framework for competency promoting teaching/learning processes. Learners, as responsible partners in learning outcomes, consider lessons as offers. A recommended model considers these and other special school characteristics facilitating a distinctive differentiation from ‘classic’ QM and assurance models. Essential components are understanding of quality, self-evaluation, individual feedback and evaluation by others.

Presentation

Quality Aims

The paramount aim of a language programme provider is the successful promotion of communicative competences of their learners. The degree to which the school achieves this – the effectivity, can be measured by the outcomes of school work – the learning outcomes, school-satisfaction as a whole and other school successes. These are defined to a large degree through school framework requirements and process qualities, with the focal point being teaching/learning processes. All other processes are aligned to this
