ELCL – Networking in Exellence

Alliance

Foreign language competency is a prerequisite for professional mobility and intercultural communication. In reply to the query: “ How can this competency be conveyed, acquired and evaluated uniformly? “, Members of the ELCL Quality Alliance have provided an answer collectively: The implementation of the recommendations of the Council of Europe according to the Common European Framework: Teaching, Learning, Assessment” (CEFR).

All Members provide supportive evidence to prove the implementation of the CEFR in their quality management systems within the framework of an application procedure.

Significant objectives are …

  • The learner as a fully-fledged and politically mature educational partner
  • Pleasure and motivation when learning a foreign language
  • Activity and communication-oriented foreign language instruction
  • Conformity in evaluation
  • Comparable competency levels

The fact that the Common European Framework has already gained notable influence in the last few years is accentuated by the recommendation of the DIHT (German Chamber of Industry and Commerce) with its 2.5 million member companies. The Chamber advises its members to recognise foreign language certificates which consider the CEFR competency levels only.
